Product List
To be updated with products I know and trust.
To start off on the sculpting side of things, I'm going to mention that I will not be including Amazon links for clay. In the beginning I purchased several 8lb boxes of clay from them at 68$ per box. This was at the high end of what I could afford and it felt like a great deal. Now, that same box goes for 135$! So, I cannot, in good conscience, recommend that product. I feel the sellers are taking complete advantage. There has, however, been a clay shortage since right around the middle of 2020 and it hasn't ever really seemed to recover.
Fortunately, I still have clay left over from that original investment.
Now, for the products. The first foil I have listed here is the one I purchased and still use. In the beginning I didn't even think of finding cheaper foil because I was so excited that it came in easy sheets like this lol. The second box, however, would work just fine and it is several dollars cheaper. When I purchase foil again, it will be that box instead of the first.
These are two tools that I use every single time I work with clay. I have found liquid clay to be indispensable. I use the Kato brand because it comes in a large bottle and has a great price point value. Actually, adding it to this page it is 6$ less than when I bought it and am now planning on getting a second bottle, even though I haven't finished the first! It works great, and I have had no issues crossing brands (I mostly use Cernit and Premo).
This "needle tool" is just fantastic. It is an every-time clay use tool. I use it for smoothing, blending, poking, you name it! I actually need to buy a new set because I have dropped both of mine on the concrete floor of my garage 🙈.
I also use this Artists turntable whenever I am working on a sculpt. It really helps to keep your sculpt in perspective because you can view it from all angles easily with this tool. Another useful function is that it keeps you from having your fingers all over the piece, thus preventing excessive fingerprints or accidental smooshing.
I have included a link to this book, though you can probably request it from your local library for free. This book helped me understand the fundamentals for building up a face in a way no other books or videos did. I followed along for my first ever major sculpture and he came out AMAZING!! I named him Devio 💙. I highly recommend having this book laid out in front of you.
The next six Findings I have listed are ones that I use regularly. I have never had any issues with them. These packs are the exact packs from the same sellers that I have previously gone through. I highly recommend grabbing a bag each of the wine glass hoops I have listed here because they are really gaining traction in the Polymer Clay Jewelry world and they are starting to be sold in significantly smaller portions with much higher prices.
These last three I included even though I have not purchased these exact sets. The pasta machine is the same one I bought when I was starting and that I still use two years later (though it is beat up now and I am intending on buying one from EdStreet when I get the chance) for 26$ with the added bonus of cutters which can be reshaped to form things like leaves. I purchased the same set that this comes with for 6$, so you are essentially getting that set for 1$. The set with the cutters, rollers, feathering tool and needle tool is a very decently priced starter set and I think it would be very unlikely to find all these pieces separate for this good of a price. And I included the acrylic roller set just in case. That is a good price for two rollers. Or, you can go the route of buying a whole 1/2 inch acrylic dowel and cut it down to meet your size needs.
